BFPC_2018_01_22_MINUTESFire and Police Commission Meeting Monday, January 22, 2018 6:00 p.m. Public Safety Building MINUTES I. Call to Order: The Chairman called the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners to order at 6:00 p.m., with the following members present: Chairman Davis, Commissioner Kernahan, Commissioner Nikitas, Also Present: Director of Human Resources Kalmar, Police Chief Walldorf, Deputy Police Chief Copeland, Fire Chief Siebert, Deputy Fire Chief Cronin II. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Nikitas, second by Kernahan, to approve the minutes of the August 15, 2015 regular and executive sessions. Motion carried unanimously. III. Review of Proposed Revisions to the Rules of the Board: The revised document was reviewed to insure all of the changes discussed with the City Attorney were acceptable to the Board. It was determined that the attorney’s proposed changes to Chapter III, Part A, Section 6 – Examination Elements and Scoring, would not be approved at this time. These recommendations will be discussed at a later meeting, along with other potential changes that were briefly discussed. The Board also approved the concept of allowing the Police and Fire Chiefs the ability to terminate an employee who, for medical reasons, is unable to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without an accommodation, by providing notice to the Board, but without filing “charges” for the termination. They requested that the City Attorney prepare the appropriate language to make this change. Motion by Davis, seconded by Kernahan, to approve the Rules and Regulations with changes as discussed.
