Present: Mayor Mike Rummel, Aldermen Timm Reynolds and John Looby; Staff: City Manager Bob Kiely and Human Resources Director DeSha Kalmar II. Order of Business • Interview with Police Chief Candidate David Field Committee members asked a number of questions of Candidate Field regarding his vision for the department, how he would deal with various situations involving internal situations and also involving the public. • Interview with Police Chief Candidate Joe Buerger Committee members asked a number of questions of Candidate Field regarding his vision for the department, how he would deal with various situations involving internal situations and also involving the public. • Feedback and Recommendation of City Manager Bob Kiely City Manager Bob Kiely presented the Committee with the feedback he had received from members of the police and fire departments, Public Safety Director Mike Hosking, members of the Fire and Police Commission and the Assessment Team, consisting of other City department heads, a resident and local judge. While it was the consensus across the board that the two candidates are both very strong, Mr. Kiely recommended the appointment of Joe Buerger as Chief because of his stronger administrative skills. Acknowledging the concern that Joe's wife currently reports to the Police Chief, DeSha Kalmar reported on steps being taken to reclassify her position and change her reporting status to the Fire Chief. The Committee agreed with this recommendation based on the information received and on the interviews conducted. They will recommend to the full City Council that Joe Buerger be appointed Police Chief at the November 8, 2006 City Council meeting. They also wanted to recognize Dave Field in some way for his accomplishments and service to the City. • Motion to return to Regular Session Motion by Mayor Rummel, seconded by Alderman Reynolds, to return to the Regular Session of the meeting. Motion carried unanimously. 4""X44-11 DeSha D. Kalmar Director of Human Resources
